Tequila Cocktails
Tequila is a spirit produced in Mexico from agaves. The first tequila is said to have been made from fermented agave juice by the indigenous people of what is now Mexico as early as the 16th century. Since the drink was still of very modest quality at that time, the spirit was hardly drinkable. For this reason, the indigenous people, and later also the Spanish “conquerors”, sought ways and means of making the spirit more palatable. This gave rise to the first tequila cocktails. Over the years, more and more tequila cocktail recipes were developed. Today, there are countless mixed drinks based on the agave spirit. There are three best-known tequila cocktails: the Tequila Sunrise, the Long Island Iced Tea and the Margarita.
