The Brandy Alexander convinces through the interplay of creamy-sweet and aromatic-alcoholic ingredients. The drink can be served perfectly as a digestif, after a meal. Due to its mild flavour, you can taste pleasantly sweet aromas. Nevertheless, the brandy flavour is not masked by the sweet ingredients. The interplay of this drink is unique and incomparable. The best thing is to try the digestif and convince yourself of its pleasant aroma.

Brandy Alexander by Hugo Ensslin

Hugo Ensslin was a well-known German bartender who worked in New York. He prepared several famous cocktails at the beginning of the 20th century. Ensslin’s most famous mixed drinks are the Aviation and the Brandy Alexander.

However, the Brandy Alexander only became really famous after Prohibition in the 1930s. At that time, the drink was mostly made with gin. Since the spirit was still of very poor quality at that time, people were looking for ways to make it more enjoyable. The Alexander Cocktail came just in time. Other famous cocktails that were created in this way are called Mimosa, Bellini, Cuba Libre, Whisky Sour, Tom Collins and Gin Fizz.

In this drink, the sweet taste harmonises with the spirit. This makes the digestif much more pleasant to drink. This was perfect for low-quality gin in the 1930s. The actual enjoyment with brandy (or cognac) was only invented later in Europe and prepared much more quickly there as well.
