Espresso Martini

The Espresso Martini is very easy to prepare. To make it, measure out all the ingredients (vodka, coffee liqueur, sugar syrup and espresso) one by one with a jigger. Then put the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes and shake it well. After shaking for about 25 to 35 seconds, you can strain the cocktail through a bar strainer into a pre-chilled martini glass. Garnish the cocktail with a few coffee beans and serve the drink to your guests.

The flavour profile of this cocktail is characterised by pleasantly alcoholic and tart notes, which are underlined by a pleasantly mild taste. Above all, the coffee/espresso flavour is clearly in the foreground. This taste is pleasantly complemented by the alcoholic vodka notes. The cocktail is suitable for all those who would like to enjoy a tart alcoholic and yet slightly sweet cocktail.

Tips for the best Espresso Martini

Use a high quality and freshly brewed espresso

When preparing this drink, we recommend using high-class and freshly brewed espresso. These freshly made hot drinks have a very special flavour profile and therefore make for a much milder and more harmonious Espresso Martini.

Shake, shake and shake

The foam crown on the Espresso Martini is characteristic of this cocktail. Connoisseurs can tell which cocktail it is just by looking at the foam. To ensure that your cocktail also has a beautiful and eye-catching foam crown, there is only one thing that helps: shake, shake and shake again.

History

The vodka cocktail is said to have been first invented in London in the 1980s. The origin story is very amusing. According to this story, a world-famous model is said to have entered London’s “Fred’s Bar”. There she ordered a cocktail from bartender Dick Badsell that was supposed to wake her up and knock her out. However, none of the known cocktails satisfied these demands. So Bradsell created the Espresso Martini. He simply mixed espresso with vodka and served the drink. The cocktail was inspired by the Dry Martini, which also consists of only two ingredients. Unfortunately, it is still not known whether the model liked this cocktail. But the cocktail probably served its purpose.

Over the years, the recipe became more and more popular. More and more recipe variations and variants were developed. Therefore, we have also decided to show you a recipe with coffee liqueur and sugar syrup. In our opinion, these ingredients fit best in the Espresso Martini and provide a very special taste experience. However, you can also omit ingredients or add others. Just try it out and find your personal favourite recipe.

It's the espresso that counts

When preparing fruity cocktails such as the Singapore Sling, Mimosa, Gin Basil Smash, Bellini, Mojito or Caipirinha, the taste always depends on the fresh ingredients used. It is similar with the Espresso Martini. The taste of this cocktail is also strongly dependent on the ingredients used. However, the most decisive factor is the espresso used. We recommend freshly brewed espresso for the preparation. You should also prepare the hot drink from fresh beans. We would rather not recommend filter coffee or ready-made blends when enjoying this high-class cocktail.

The characteristic froth

One of the most characteristic features of the Espresso Martini is the head of foam. Without this head of foam, the cocktail is simply not the same. But what should you do so that you can definitely create a foamy crown on the mixed drink? The answer is quite simple: shake, shake and shake again. Only when you have shaken the drink really well will a nice head of foam be created. Therefore, if you want a nice head of foam, you have to work “hard” for it. In addition, the drink with a head of foam is an eye-catcher in your bar or at parties at home.
