Known through Hollywood
The mixed drink with the catchy name “Zombie” is said to have been invented shortly after Prohibition. In the 1930s, many bartenders experimented with various ingredients. Making very strong cocktails, such as the Dry Martini, Long Island Iced Tea, Rusty Nail, Bahama Mama, Hurricane Cocktail or the Mai Tai were also very popular at that time.
A man named Donn Beach is said to have invented the Zombie Cocktail. According to the following amusing story, the drink got its name from a friend of Beach’s who visited his cocktail bar. This friend was still hungover from the night before. Donn Beach prepared the Zombie Cocktail to refresh his friend. After he had enjoyed a few drinks, he headed for the airport. During the flight he felt like an undead (or “zombie”). That’s why Donn Beach named the drink after this statement: Zombie Cocktail.
