The taste profile of the Bahama Mama cocktail
26 Reviews
Fruity, sweet and alcoholic flavours come together in the Bahama Mama. The sour notes of the lemon juice are almost completely masked by the other ingredients. The interplay of fruity-sweet fruit juice with the flavours of rum is unique and special. However, there are also clearly alcoholic notes, which are underlined by the coconut flavour. All in all, the Bahama Mama is a very special taste experience that is not only suitable for lovers of sweet cocktails.
Back to the Roots
The Bahama Mama originally became popular in the 1950s. However, the drink was probably first prepared several years earlier. The drink gained popularity for several reasons. The main reason, however, is the music. In the 1950s, several songs were released called “Bahama Mama”, which were more or less dedicated to the cocktail. The most famous artists who released the songs were Blind Blake and the Goombay Troubadours.
The real “inventor” of the Bahama Mama cocktail cannot be determined. However, it is assumed that the Tiki Cocktail was already prepared in the 1940s. The recipe is said to have originated in a family who very slowly brought the drink to the bars of the world. Today, you can order the Bahama Mama in cocktail bars and occasionally in restaurants. However, the mixed drink is not as popular as, for example, the Mimosa, White Russian, Gimlet or Cuba Libre.
