Most whisky cocktails are tart and strong in flavour. If you are looking for a sweet cocktail, you will rarely find one with whisky cocktails. The Blood and Sand Cocktail is a welcome alternative. The drink is pleasantly sweet and fruity with strong tart and spicy notes. Not quite as sweet as a Pina Colada but not nearly as tart as an Old Fashioned. Try the drink yourself and let the mildly sweet flavours with a tangy aftertaste convince you.
Indispensable since 1922
This cocktail was first prepared in 1922 and is named after the film Blood & Sand by Rudolph Valentino. From there on, the drink became more and more popular and was offered in more and more cocktail bars. It is one of the few cocktails that should really be made exclusively with single malt scotch. Next to drinks dominated by bourbon, the Blood and Sand Cocktail tastes much sweeter and not quite as tart. This makes it perfect for people who are not sure if they like Scotch whisky. The film after which the drink was named has been remade several times, which has also brought the drink into the conversation over and over again. The film is about a young Spaniard (played by Rudolph Valentino) who wants to become a matador one day.
