Hanky Panky Cocktail Recipe
- 5 cl Gin
- 5 cl Sweet Vermouth
- 2-3 dashes Fernet Branca
- 1-2 dashes orange juice (optional)
Step by Step Guide
- Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass one after the other and add some ice.
- Stir the drink with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds.
- Now strain into a martini glass, grit with an orange zest and then serve!
The preparation of the Hanky Panky cocktail is actually much easier than you would think at first glance. To make it, first measure all the ingredients (gin & vermouth) with a jigger and put them into a mixing glass together with Fernet Branca and orange juice. Add a few ice cubes and stir everything with a bar spoon. If you don’t have a bar spoon at hand, you can simply use a tablespoon. After you have stirred all the ingredients for about 20 seconds, you can strain the liquid through a bar strainer into a pre-chilled martini glass or cocktail bowl. Now just garnish with an orange zest and serve.

This gin cocktail is something for lovers of bitter taste. The drink is primarily determined by the interplay of the gin and vermouth, but the bitter liqueur of Fernet Branca gives it an incredibly bitter and tart note that is rarely found in cocktails. If you add orange juice, you can loosen up the very classic flavour a little and create sweet, fruity aromas. If you are more of a fan of fruity-sweet cocktails, the Hanky Panky Cocktail is probably not your favourite drink. However, if you like classic cocktails like a Negroni, White Negroni or Boulevardier, you should definitely try this recipe.
For the Bitter-Lovers
The Hanky Panky cocktail was first prepared at the beginning of the 20th century. Ada “Coley” Coleman from the American Bar in London’s Savoy Hotel is considered the inventor of the drink. According to one story, the drink was created after Coleman served Sir Charles Henry Hawtrey a cocktail which Hawtrey called “By Jove! That is the real hanky-panky!”. The name for the drink was born.
This gin cocktail is particularly suitable for those who love tart and classically bitter cocktails. If you like Manhattan, Americano or Negroni, this recipe will also suit you. Just try the drink yourself. You will be surprised how easy and fast this cocktail can be prepared. Discover the simple Hanky Panky recipe now and let yourself be enchanted by its unique taste!
