This drink is the perfect meeting of fruity fresh notes and a pleasantly noble alcoholic touch. The Gentlemans Cocktail convinces with mild and refreshing aromas, which are at the same time very well underlined by acidic notes. The alcoholic taste is more in the background. The sour and fruity taste is more in the foreground.
What makes the White Lady cocktail so special?
The White Lady is a classic drink that belongs to the family of sours. It consists of tart alcoholic orange liqueur, fresh gin and sweet lemon juice. Sometimes the drink is also called the Chelsea Sidecar. There are also recipe variations in which egg whites are added. This creates a beautiful head of foam. The “Royal” White Lady can also be ordered in cocktail bars on request. The drink is even on the list of official cocktails of the International Bartender Association (IBA) and is thus one of the best-known and most popular drinks of all.
How the legendary drink came into being
The White Lady Cocktail was first prepared in 1919. The legendary bartender Harry MacElhone first prepared the drink when he worked at Ciro’s Club in London. At that time, however, the aperitif still consisted of crème de menthe, triple sec and lemon. This unusual mix lasted for a few years, but then disappeared from the menus of most bars.
After the recipe was changed in 1929 to the one we know today, the drink became more and more famous. Today, the White Lady is one of the best-known and most popular gin cocktails around. Give the drink a chance and enjoy it in your own home!
Related drinks - Sidecar & Gin Fizz
The White Lady is a variation of the Sidecar cocktail! The Sidecar is one of the most classic sour cocktails around. It is made with cognac, lemon and orange liqueur and the taste is very complex. Only the spirit is changed here. Otherwise, the drink is exactly the same. Another similar drink is the Gin Fizz. This is another of the most famous cocktail classics of all time. The Gin Fizz uses plain soda water instead of orange liqueur for the “fizz” effect.
