The Red Snapper Cocktail consists of a comparatively large number of ingredients, but it is very easy to prepare. You can start by putting the salt and pepper on a small plate. Then draw a lime wedge over the rim of the glass you want to use for serving afterwards. Dip the glass into the mix so that a nice salt and pepper rim forms.

Now measure out all the ingredients with a jigger and pour them one by one into a cocktail shaker. Add a few ice cubes and shake the shaker well for about 20 seconds. Now you can strain the drink through a bar strainer into the glass with the salt and pepper rim and add a few more ice cubes to the glass. Garnish the drink with a celery stalk or a lime wedge and serve.

How does the "anti-hangover drink" taste?

The Red Snapper Cocktail is a mixed drink that stands out from other cocktails in terms of taste. Instead of sweet, tart or fruity notes, this drink focuses on the taste of tomato with a slight spiciness. Added to this are slightly alcoholic notes, which are underlined by the aroma of the gin used. If you are looking for a refreshing drink in the summer, you are not so well advised with the Red Snapper. But if you are looking for an anti-hangover cocktail after a long and hard night, you should definitely give the Red Snapper a chance.

A brief review

Back in 1941, the cocktail recipe for this drink was first published in Crosby Gaige’s Cocktail Guide and Ladies Companion. At that time, however, it still used vodka as the base ingredient. Later, in the 1960s, the recipe with gin was published, which is still mostly prepared today.

Time and again, the Red Snapper is compared to the Bloody Mary. And indeed, the drinks are very similar and differ mainly only in the basic spirit. But you will be surprised at the difference in taste between the two cocktails just because of the change in one ingredient. It’s best to try both recipes and find out which drink you like best!
